Health On Demand

May 2022

Latin America’s health care system is profoundly inefficient, with only two doctors for every 1,000 individuals. More than 140 million people in the region are denied access to health care coverage, much of this due to informal paychecks. This means that ⅓ of LatAm health costs are out-of-pocket. These profound inefficiencies serve as a clear leverage point for innovation and change. Prixz is doing just that.

To say that Prixz has redefined health care in Mexico is an understatement. As the largest on-demand health platform, Prixz is the first of its kind to sell and deliver medical and wellness products, while also providing primary services such as diagnostics and telemedicine.

Prixz’s healthcare platform turns the status quo upside down by ensuring that patients get exactly what they need at the time they need it

In Mexico, pharmacists often cut corners on potentially lifesaving drugs. Customer prescriptions are adjusted by pharmacists to best fit their extraordinarily limited inventory and their own brand preferences. Moreover, the pharmacies may not have a sufficient supply to fulfill the entire prescription. It’s common for customers to leave with only half of what they need of the wrong brand. Pharmacies prioritize profits over patient health and experience. Prixz’s healthcare platform turns this upside down by ensuring that patients get exactly what they need at the time they need it. “With our technology and partnerships, we bring an expansive catalog to customers, offering them products that they don’t have access to in physical stores,” says Prixz co-founder and COO.

“Prior to Prixz, patients — particularly with chronic diseases — had enormous difficulties in fulfilling their prescriptions,” says co-founder and CEO Manuel Manzur. Prixz negotiates drug prices directly with manufacturers, lowering costs and cutting out intermediaries. As a result, after just four years Prixz’s web traffic surpasses that of the largest institutional pharmacy in Mexico.

Last-mile delivery companies are unable to meaningfully compete with Prixz, as there are immense nuances in pharmaceutical deliveries, ranging from temperature requirements to security and contamination control. Moreover, Prixz’s understanding of the patient’s condition allows them to personalize the care and delivery experience. Prixz instructs their delivery employees how to show empathy for patients — particularly those with sensitive conditions.

However, Prixz is more than just a digital pharmacy. Propelled by the pandemic, their telemedicine and diagnostic services provide greater patient accessibility and reach to an underserved population. Looking forward, Prixz will provide comprehensive, convenient and professional healthcare, expanding into Colombia and Peru. Clearly, Prixz is a unicorn in the making.
